Change Your Habits, Change Your Life

“Our lives change when our habits change.” – Matthew Kelly

What are your 2016 resolutions? Do you want to lose weight?  Do you want to have better relationships?  Do you want to grow into the person that you were destined to become?  Your resolutions and goals can only be accomplished as long as you are willing to change your habits. Psychologists say that 90% of our day is habitual. Most of the things that we do are governed by routines. So if you want to change you life, change your habits.

Recently I had a conversation with Phil Chung who is the president of Jim Karas Personal Training. (http://www.jimkaras.com/). Phil explained to me that all of his clients who are seeking weight loss are directed to change their habits. Below is a five-question summary of how they encourage their clients to change their habits.

Question 1: What do you want to change in your life?

Answer: I want to lose 30 pounds.

Question 2: Why do you want to lose 30 pounds?

Answer: I want to be more fit, more confident, and better looking.

Question 3: What do you think people who are 30 pounds lighter feel like?

Answer: More fit, more confident, better looking

Question 4: What do you think that fit, confident and better-looking person does every morning?

Answer: They eat healthy foods, they exercise, and they get adequate sleep.

Question 5: Which one of those three habits can you adjust tomorrow to help you on your 30-pound weight loss journey?

Answer: I can wake up every morning and take a 30-minute walk.

Our lives will change when our habits change. Nobody loses weight by saying that they want to lose weight. Our weight loss comes when we change the habits that surround our physical well-being. Secondly, when we change our habits, we often find that those habits such as diet and proper sleep will help us become more fit, confident and better looking long before we lose 30 pounds.
